Mining Searches UK
Celebrating 40 years in Business, Redruth firm is set for major growth thanks to digital tech
Mining Searches UK have been providing mining reports to solicitors, civil engineers, property developers and conveyancers since 1978. The Redruth based business also offers a specialist geological investigation service that includes contaminated land information.
The management team had already invested in technology to enable surveyors to deliver reports from the field but, due to growing demand, they realised that they needed to build capacity by further leveraging technology. The team hoped to be able to automate reports to build capacity for further growth and soon concluded they needed a wider review of their IT strategy.
The Opportunity and Solution
Mining Searches UK approached Superfast Business Cornwall to help them develop a fully integrated system to enable a better service to current clients and have a compelling offer for new customers. When the business started working with Digital Business Enabler, Steve Edwards, he established that a key requirement was to work from one central system that could bring, seamlessly together the resources, search, geology, administration and finance departments.
“I worked closely with the business to undertake a comprehensive review of existing systems, processes and ensured the integration required was documented and agreed to draw-up a specification for procurement.
“The team were fantastic to work with, their enthusiasm for finding improvements and streamlining processes was a joy.”
Grant funding was provided for the new business management system, which was implemented with project management support from Steve. The automation of tasks has significantly increased the business’ capacity which is now able to deliver considerably more reports. The time resource that this has released allows staff to focus on interpreting data which provides new data insights for customers.
The Impact for the Business
Mining Searches UK have a clear marketing strategy which involves partnering with the leading providers in the UK as Managing Director, Paul Raglan, explains:
“Without this new technology this would not be possible. The largest clients in our market are looking for suppliers who have ICT systems that can communicate directly with their own. This project has allowed us to offer that and is a real opportunity to win more business. We anticipate that 80% of our search business will be generated from outside of the South West area. This will represent a business growth of nearly 200%.”
Paul added that he would urge any Cornish business to be open to adopting technology and seek the advice available:
“Having someone who is completely impartial and working in our best interest was invaluable. Steve’s experience, skills, knowledge and ability to deliver complex issues with clarity and with a smile was a key factor in us delivering this project.”
