MWR Media Ltd Case Study
MWR Media Ltd provide consultancy, editorial and PR in the agriculture machinery industry. Their magazine, Pro Operator, goes to all 21,600 sprayer operators in the UK. Working with Superfast Business Cornwall they have developed an innovative Online Learning Environment to deliver accredited and certificated Continual Professional Development (CPD) for sprayer operators.
Mick Roberts, one of the Directors is a recognised industry expert, having worked as a journalist, editor and PR consultant in the sector for over thirty years.
“Mobile and tablet devices are now used on a daily basis by farm contractors, managers and staff to run their business operations. Technology such as GPS yield mapping and weather apps mean that the vast majority of sprayer operators are tech-savvy. This new method of delivery will provide up-to-date, high quality content, which is independently assessed and compliant and the new website, eioperator.com will be the only dedicated online training provider in this field.”
Superfast Business Cornwall’s Digital Business Enabler, Steve Edwards who worked with the team at MWR said
“It was fantastic to work with Julia and Mick to help them make the most of digital technologies to diversify their business. The new service is very well timed and I was impressed by this small business which is certainly one of the many hidden gems in Cornwall, great innovators delivering excellence across the UK from a Cornish base.”
Working closely with the National Register of Sprayer Operators (NRoSO) MWR have tailored the service to the audience. All sprayer operators in the UK must undertake CPD to maintain their licence. Despite advances in tech the majority is delivered as face-to-face, with onerous time and travel costs. The new online learning environment provides every sprayer operator access to high quality online training to promote best practice, protect the environment and improve water quality. Supported by in-depth articles, news and information.
“Thanks to the funding and support from Superfast Business Cornwall we have the potential to expand into other markets and overseas. This new digital innovation gives the business the potential to increase turnover and profits considerably, re-train existing staff and recruit new employees growing the business both in the UK and potentially across Ireland, Europe and beyond.”
Business Manager Julia Roberts added,
“The support Steve has given through Superfast Business Cornwall has been transformational for our business. I really can’t say enough about them I’m like a walking billboard advert! As a company with little digital knowledge, Superfast have held our hand throughout and made the impossible, possible.”
Funded by ERDF, Superfast Business Cornwall provides a fully funded programme of support to help businesses understand, adopt and exploit digital technology for growth. Delivered by a small team of experienced Digital Business Advisers, the service offers 1-2-1 impartial advice, website reviews, workshops for small groups and advice on connectivity to Superfast Broadband. Grant funding may also be available for new digital projects which help businesses grow and create jobs.
