New Holiday Letting Software Development enhances tourism IT service range of Cornish ICT specialist

Bodmin based Tanist is an ICT consultancy providing bespoke software solutions, website development, WI-FI solutions, Customer Relationship Management systems and IT.

Established in 1986 by John Holman, Tanist has 9 technology professionals delivering IT services.

The Opportunity

Tanist contacted Superfast Business Cornwall as they were developing a new Software as a Service product for the self-catering holiday letting agency market.  This is a fully comprehensive back office system tailored to the sector. The new software adds to Tanist’s innovative service range that already includes holiday broadband and property monitoring solutions, live streaming and destination web-cam hosting as well as complex WiFi installation and connection services. These services are supporting property owners, holiday destinations and property lettings agencies across the county.

The Solution

Digital Business Enabler Steve Edwards worked with the business to establish a plan to develop the software and to make it market ready.

John Holman explains:

“This proposed software will give clients the tools to support a complete property management portfolio with a fully integrated client accounting package and will enable us to go to market at a time where a number of significant agencies are looking for a new booking solution. Bookworx has the potential locally, nationally and internationally to be an affordable offering within the Booking System market.”

Steve supported Tanist discussing the project’s implementation which included sourcing additional resource to work on the software development; product readiness testing and preparing the support and training resources required.  The project was part-funded by a grant from Superfast Business Cornwall.

The Impact for Tanist

Steve says:

“Tanist has created a great product which will give them the opportunity to grow this part of their business as well as develop the software functionality to suit other sectors which require booking systems.  It’s been a pleasure to work with them and they are another great Cornish business we should be proud of.”

The business has already created five high value skilled jobs as a result of working with Superfast Business Cornwall.  The launch of Bookworx is planned for mid 2019.

What is Software as a Service and how can it benefit my business?

Software as a service, usually abbreviated to SaaS, is a way of delivering software applications via the cloud to your business, and so reducing your requirement for technology infrastructure and technical expertise. Under the SaaS model, you no longer pay for software applications before downloading them to a PC or installing them from a CD. Instead, you sign up with a software supplier who supports the SaaS model or with a specialist SaaS firm, and then get through your day-to-day work using software that is held on their servers. Most of your data, too, will be stored by the service provider. The use of their software is charged for on a subscription basis according to usage.
