Job description:

The role involves working in a team developing Java based software applications related to “Big Data” problems and also the processing of seismic data acquired by the oil and geothermal industries. The duties will include software development, implementing test programs, preparing documentation and providing client support. The initial duties will include working on software tools for the design and evaluation of “Big Data” applications.

Example duties:

The initial duties will focus on the development of software tools for the design and evaluation of “Big Data” applications. This project will be supported by “Superfast Business Cornwall and Isles of Scilly” as part of the Convergence Programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Essential and desirable requirements and skills:

• Applicants must have at least 2 years experience in object oriented programming.
• Experience in Java application and Java database development would be ideal.
• Be educated to degree level or higher in mathematics and/or scientific computing
• Have an understanding of statistical data analysis techniques
• Have experience in mathematical algorithm design and implementation
• Experience of working in the Eclipse development environment is beneficial
• Be fluent in English
• Proficiency in German, French or Spanish would also be an advantage

The duties will also include investigating the potential of new technologies such as website push notification.

This project will be supported by “Superfast Business Cornwall and Isles of Scilly” as part of the Convergence Programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Essential and desirable requirements and skills:

• Be educated to degree level in computer science, mathematics or physical science
• In-depth knowledge of Python and/or PHP
• Knowledge and experience of responsive web design
• Experience of NoSQL database development, such as MongoDB
• Experience of browser/server communication formats, such as JSON and XML
• App development experience using Apache Cordova would also be desirable
• Knowledge of website push notification protocols also helpful
• Be fluent in English
• Proficiency in German, French or Spanish would also be an advantage
