Businesses Connect to the Future at our annual showcase event

L-R Dr Simon Moores, Julian Cowans, Sebeail Fowell and Andy WilliamsMore than 120 business people from all over Cornwall gathered at Goonhilly Earth station last week to hear about the exciting opportunities that the use of digital technology creates for business growth.

They were attending a one-day ‘Connect to the Future’ technology showcase event, organised by us, which looked at how digital technology could boost business communication.

The full day event included workshops, keynote speakers, ask the adviser sessions with Superfast Business Cornwall digital business advisers, networking opportunities and tours of Goonhilly.  The keynote speaker was Dr Simon Moores, an internationally recognized technology thought leader, who advises businesses and governments on the opportunities and applications of emerging technologies.  He inspired the audience with his perspective on how we are at a unique point where many technology changes are converging to drive the evolution and direction of businesses of all sizes.

Garry Barter, CEO of Cornwall-based AI company Hertzian, gave the afternoon keynote and explained  how advanced technologies like AI can revolutionise the way that all businesses operate.

Sebeail Fowell, Programme and Partnership Manager for Superfast Business Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said:

“We’ve had great feedback from the delegates. The room was buzzing with enthusiasm and we made connections on the day that have great potential for new business collaborations.  I think what really appealed to people was the combination of cutting-edge insight and practical applications giving information that they can apply to their own businesses today.

“Our role is to help businesses embrace the potential for digital technology to boost business performance and reduce costs.  Our team of Digital Business Advisers work with businesses giving impartial information and advice.  They are an experienced IT team so are well placed to follow up the many discussions from the day.

Among those attending the conference was Ben White from Ben White Architecture near Truro, who said:

“We came along as the list of speakers looked interesting and relevant to our business.  We ended up booking time with a Digital Business Adviser and look forward to exploring our work programming further.  We left with a spark of debate relating to the Artificial Intelligence direction the world is taking and how this might affect our business.”

The showcase event is part of a wider programme of support, high quality information, advice and digital development, including investment for new digital projects, to support ambitious Cornish businesses.

The first step in the Programme is a workshop entitled ‘Technology for Business Growth’ which covers use of The Cloud, exploiting websites to sell regionally, nationally and globally and cyber security. Next date is 11th December in Wadebridge visit: https://www.sfbcornwall.co.uk/workshops-events to find out more.
